Minister of the Interior of the Una-Sana Canton (USC), Nermin Kljajić, confirmed that 7,210 migrants were returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina illegally from the Republic of Croatia last year, i.e. contrary to the Readmission Agreement.

-These are our operational data, collected on the basis of recording and taking statements from these migrants and refugees. People were mostly returned to the area of our canton, i.e. the city of Bihać and the municipality of Velika Kladuša. Unfortunately, the B&H Border Police presents different data and I would not comment that at all - stated the cantonal minister Kljajić.

According to police estimates, more than 3,500 migrants and refugees are currently staying in the Una-Sana Canton.

About 1,300 people are currently accommodated in the temporary reception center "Miral" in Velika Kladuša, where a number of people are staying in abandoned buildings and improvised tent settlements. There are a total of about 900 migrants and refugees in the centers for vulnerable categories "Sedra" in Cazin and "Borići" in Bihać, while approximately the same number of people are in the locality of Lipa near Bihać. There are also several hundred migrants in abandoned buildings and those so-called wild tent settlements in the city of Bihać," said Kljajić.

He also pointed out that a smaller number of incidents and criminal acts have been recorded since the closure of the temporary reception center "Bira" in the center of Bihać.

-Since we closed Bira a smaller number of incidents and crimes have been noticed in our records. If we had been asked, Bira and Miral would never have been reception centers due to the security aspect- said the USC Minister of the Interior.

It was also announced that the adaptation of the Reception Camp Lipa will try to adequately accommodate all people without a decent place to live in the Una-Sana Canton, but also stressed that the capacity of the camp for security reasons should not exceed 1,500 people.
